About BackStage Hotel

Backstage is quirky, young, well run, very music orientated and beautifully located to take advantage of all that Amsterdam has to offer.

Backstage in Amsterdam is run by friendly and attentive staff, and is close to Leidsegracht canal, located in a peaceful part of the town, yet central and handy for clubs and musical venues: definitely a hotel for young and young at heart travellers. “Guitars and amps at the bar”!

A satisfying and competitively priced buffet breakfast is available here to set you up for the day.

The hotel is close to the venues Paradiso, Melkweg, The Cave, Bourbon Street, Sugar Factory and of course Amsterdam's world famous museums. This accommodation is also known as Amsterdam BackStage, Amsterdam BackStage Hotel, Amsterdam Hotel BackStage, and BackStage Amsterdam.

Positive Reviews

Out of the Ordinary

"Perfect for young travellers who prefer cool design over comfort". Backstage is not a place for people who like to go to bed early as there are music shows in the bar area. Guests tend to be younger travellers who appreciate a “character” hotel as opposed to a standardised and sanitised environment. Room décor is described as cool, and the locality is a picturesque and quiet area of Amsterdam, with everything in walking distance.

Home From Home and Friendly

The staff who work here are great, typically allowing guests to keep luggage in the kitchen until the room was ready, and after they had checked out. It is a hotel with a quirky style in a traditional building. Having travelled through Europe guests described the staff as the nicest they had came across, and commented on clean, soft sheets and a homely feeling.

Good Housekeeping Too

The rooms are spotless. Access to the tram stops and to get over to the station is easy. Lovely warm, clean and simple accommodation spacious rooms, quick Wi-Fi, and the breakfast is great!

Negative Reviews

Be Prepared to Climb

The stairs are a bit steep but this is typical of Amsterdam They are exactly what was expected. Carpets in the hallways and stairs are a bit smelly, rooms are fine although the walls are a bit thin.

Only One and a Surprise

There was one unpleasant member of staff! The Amsterdam tax came as a nasty shock.

Small is Beautiful

The building is tiny but to be fair every house in Amsterdam is small. Downstairs rooms have limited daylight. Probably not a realistic place to travel with children We found remarkably few real complaints about this hotel: steep stairs, and small buildings are part of the Amsterdam experience, and tax is one of life's unfortunate certainties!
