About Guilford Courthouse National Military Park

The Guilford Courthouse National Military Park near Greensboro commemorates a battle from the United States War of Independence from Great Britain. The battle, which occurred on March 15, 1781, pitted British forces under Lord Charles Cornwallis against American militiamen and forced the Americans to withdraw. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse is said to have marked the highwater mark for British forces in the Southern Campaign. Highlights of the park include a museum at the Visitor Center, an orientation film, a variety of special programs, and 2.5 miles of walking trails on the battlefield itself. The park is open year-round, and admission is free.
