Positive Reviews

A stellar situation

The location of this Kowloon-Peninsula hostel is much loved by most travellers, who find it difficult to find fault with the fun-filled neighbourhood, Tsim Sha Tsui and the eclectic retail experience found along Nathan Road. Housed within high-rise souk, Chungking Mansions, this hostel is a short trot from the dozens of South-Asian restaurants inside the complex as well as its chaotic three-level arcade for trading new and second-hand items. Being so close to Tsim Sha Tsui Underground Station is a further draw.

Negative Reviews

Shortage of space

The miniature size of some rooms leave travellers feeling hemmed in. Groups in particular struggle when all are in residence. Tiny private and communal bathrooms are not for those who cherish privacy. The bunk beds within rooms offer little in the way of solace, with larger guests finding it hard to sleep comfortably. A lack of windows in rooms further adds to the claustrophobic atmosphere; reviews suggest that any small windows which do exist are covered and offer no outlook.

Stroppy staff

Reviews suggest a friendly welcome and understanding staff are not guaranteed at this residence. Reports of mix-ups over bookings and fall-outs over billing are frequent. Reports of staff refusing to accept culpability for errors gets many a guest’s back up, with reviewers often describing the erratic employees as rude in their dealings: travellers with genuine complaints have been laughed out of reception.
